GBDI can also provide customized training and consultation that meet the needs of a specific country. Individual countries can use these courses to:
- Develop better strategy for economic development in rural areas by adopting science and technology
- Deal more effectively with the scientific, contractual, policy, intellectual property, and other legal aspects of protecting rights and sharing benefits from biological resources
- Furnish policymakers with a coherent overview of bio-safety regulation in order to pave the way for adoption of biotechnology in their countries and also to increase private sector development
- Foster closer working partnerships among policymakers from different ministries and stakeholders, so as to develop policies that are nationally coordinated to protect the interests of the country
- Build capacity for developing appropriate governance regimes, laws and regulations
- Raise awareness and facilitate dialogue among the scientific community, policymakers, industry and the public
- Develop skills for making choices and regulating, developing and spreading biotechnology

Training Course Costs
Scholarships are available for participants from developing countries for covering most of the regional training courses. Participants generally pay only a minimum fee. Regional training courses draw participants from various professions (lawyers, scientists, economists, intellectual property professionals, and medium to high-level policymakers).
Participants from courses given for only one country are drawn exclusively from key government ministries. Places are reserved only for high-level policymakers (directors and above, including ministers).
